What price do you put on real friends?

Our bithdays are well and truly over now. I mean we celebrated them back in the first week of July. Mine is two days after Jo's, but she is a lttle older than me! What brought our birthdays back to mind was a parcel that arrived today. It came from a couple of really good friends of ours back in Warrnambool. Jason and Tania sent us both a gift each and also included a packet mix cake for us to make, some candles and some balloons to celebrate with. Tania has always been known for going that extra mile. Her custom is that whenever someone celebrates a birthday she gives them a hand written scroll full of encouragament and promises from the Word of God. I now have several of these scrolls and I have kept everyone of them. Occassionally I get them out and read them.

Tania and Jason have for a long time been great friends to us. They stood with us faithfully when we were going through a painful period of transition. They were always available, they always hoped, they always believed the best of us, they never gave up on us even though others did. They were always patient and kind and always spoke words of life and faith to us. They are both good friends. The parcel that arrived today caused me to refelect again on the value of friends. What sort of a friend am I? Am I taking the time to invest in friendships that willl last the distance.

I want to say thank you to both Jason and Tania. You are good friends and it is an honour and a privilege to know you both.

A student once again

Well tonight was a first. I attended Tabor College with David. David is currently doing a Bachelor of Ministry at Tabor College. This semester one of his subjects is 'Mentoring'. As I looked over the course outline I began to think how much I would like to do the subject myself. The end of the story is that I have enrolled a student, after a break of over twenty years. I have survived my first night of lectures and quite enjoyed it.

A day out in the new car

Today Jo and I set off in our brand new Kia Carnival for a drive. We set off north to New Norfolk and then turned to follow the river and made our way all the way down to Mount Field National Park. We hesitated a little at the entrance because the sign said there was an entrance fee of $20 per car. It was late morning and we really only wanted to see the falls. After some deliberation we bit the bullet and went in. It was GREAT. The falls were spectacular and I spent some time with the video and tripod getting some great shots for Simon who is working on a water themed movie project at present.

After seeing the falls we drove on a little futher into the park and stopped at the tall trees walk. We then spent a vert pleasant half an hour meandering around the tall trees. Although the day was a little wet, the forest walk was awesome. I came away feeling the $20 admission was ok afterall.

We left the national park and headed back towards New Norfolk stopping at Salmaon Ponds Trout farm on the way. It wasn't the trout farm that attracted us, but the amazing pancake dishes they serve there. They were actually more like crepes, but delicious all the same. Both Jo and I had smoked salmon. Mine was served with Camonbert cheese, Jo had spinach. Each to their own me thinks.

All up it was a great day. We really enjoyed ourselves and the new car was an added treat. We got home at 4.30 pm.

Tonight I am at home, but tomorrow it is back to work!

Our House

This is a picture of our house. Now I know you can't see much, but it's not an easy house to get a photo of. We live about one km out of the city of the Hobart in a flat roofed house with a great view of the Derwent River and the City of Hobart. I should mention that the house has a great guest room and flights to Tassie are almost always really cheap!!
