And they said I killed the tree
Last year I took to the tree out the front of our house. I hit my head on it once too often and gave it a savage pruning. All my family thought the tree would never survive and that I had killed it. Well look at it now!
"For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease. Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth branches like a young plant. 1But mortals die, and are laid low; humans expire, and where are they?"

Today's lectionary reading (Job 14):
"For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its shoots will not cease. Though its root grows old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth branches like a young plant. 1But mortals die, and are laid low; humans expire, and where are they?"
Well may your tree thrive, but what of you?
